Chandaria four bailed

By , January 6, 2021

A Nairobi court has released police officers, two private security guards and a housekeeper charged with failure to prevent a robbery incident at businessman Manu Chandaria’s on a Sh500,000 cash bail each.

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul granted an Administration Police officer (Jared Omboga) two private guards (Judah Wafula, Stephen Omwega) and housekeeper (Jackson Nalondo) bail after rejecting the prosecution’s application to deny them bail.

Abdul said the application to have the suspects detained pending the hearing and determination of the case lacked merit.

The prosecution had opposed release of the quartet on bail on grounds that the State  intended to prefer more charges against the accused and others who are still at large and being sought by police.

The foursome have since denied a charge of failure to prevent a felony namely robbery with violence at the industrialist’s residence.

The prosecution alleges that on December 14, 2020 at 0130 hours at house number 52 along Muthaiga Road in Starehe sub-county, while on duty at the said residence they failed to use all reasonable means to prevent the commission of a felony namely robbery with violence where Manu Chandaria was robbed of cash Sh 700,000 and two pieces of jewelry namely pearl necklaces valued at Sh1.7 million.
