Caleb Amisi defends Winnie Odinga amid onslaught from ODM leaders

Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has come out to defend Winnie Odinga, daughter of the late Prime Minister, amid an onslaught from a section of leaders allied to the Orange Democratic Movement.

In a statement shared on his social media pages on Saturday, November 15, 2025, he defended Winnie Odinga after her fiery speech on the future of ODM during the ODM at 20 celebrations in Mombasa. He accused some party members, especially those attacking Winnie, of being sponsored by the current regime to push for the sale of ODM.

Amisi said Winnie Odinga has always stood by her father and witnessed his political struggles firsthand.

“Winnie Odinga has been the pillar of her father; Baba died in her hands. I have seen her endure teargas and shield the father from political mandarins,” Amisi said.

He noted that those attacking her for questioning the direction of the party were exposing themselves as individuals who never believed in Raila Odinga’s ideals. According to him, attempts to weaken the party would not succeed as long as he remains committed to defending Raila’s vision for a better country.

“These Ruto-sponsored ODM nincompoops insulting her for daring the ODM sell-out only show how Baba was surrounded with parasites and not disciples! Most current ODM leaders really never believed in Baba’s ideals. It is unravelling now and so fast.” Amisi said.

Winnie Odinga’s remarks

These remarks came shortly after Winnie, during the ODM Youth League at 20 celebrations, expressed frustration over individuals within the party who she claimed were attempting to auction it.

She said some leaders pretend to defend the party in public while pursuing selfish interests behind the scenes.

She reminded them that the party was built through street struggles and sacrifice, not through comfort, and vowed that its founding principles would not be compromised.

Her sentiments did not sit well with some ODM leaders. Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai criticised Winnie, stating that she lacks the political stature to challenge senior party figures.

He also faulted Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga for allowing herself to be addressed in such a manner, describing Winnie as a political beginner.
