Caleb Amisi: Affordable Housing was not a priority for Kenyans
Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has argued that the affordable housing program being implemented by the Kenya Kwanza regime under President William Ruto is not a priority to Kenyans.
At the same time, the vocal MP has weighed in on President William Ruto’s latest remarks, urging the the youth aged above 25 years to marry amid tough socio-economic challenges facing the country’s young people, saying the youth are demanding from the president, ‘affordable wife program’ instead of the affordable housing program.
Taking to X on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker has said the affordable housing program is meant to enrich certain individuals at the expense of the taxpayers.
Amisi’s critique
”The housing program was not a priority to Kenyans but a money minting program for the bourgeois at the total loss to the Kenyans’ payslips. The level of desperation from young Kenyans is historic and unless government sober up and address the elephant in the room, the country is staring at ungovernable population,” Amisi said.
As of July 2025, President William Ruto has confirmed that the government’s Affordable Housing programme has already employed more than 320,000 young people across the country, adding that the initiative is a key part of his administration’s strategy to address the growing unemployment crisis among the country’s young generation.

Speaking from Kilimani, Nairobi, on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, President Ruto said that by that time, more than 320,000 youths were engaged in active construction roles across various housing project sites spread throughout Kenya.
Ruto’s defense
“As we speak, we have more than 320,000 youths working under the Affordable Housing programme across Kenya,” he said. “We have over 200 housing projects spread out nationwide. This morning, many young people are already on site, engaged in this work.” He maintained that the programme was intentionally structured to target unemployed youth and create sustainable income streams in construction and related fields.

“These young people were not working before, because the programme did not exist. But now we have a system that is ensuring that these youth, technicians, masons, and others, have work,” he said.
President Ruto’s affordable housing program has been receiving rejection from a section of elected leaders. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna voiced strong opposition to the initiative on September 25, 2025, during Senate proceedings. Sifuna’s crique focused on procedural illegality and potential political interference.
