Climax coach driver Tiran Kamau, who was involved in an accident with former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, has explained how he was forced to collide with the deceased and save 67 passengers.

The accident happened in Naivasha on Saturday, December 13, 2025, killing him on the spot.

The driver of the Climax bus has said that he was headed to Western Kenya from Nairobi when the accident occurred a few kilometres from Naivasha town.

Kamau said that the deceased joined the highway and failed to keep his lane, as there were other cars also heading to Nairobi.

“I had 67 passengers on board, and if I had veered off the road, I would have killed all of them, and we ended up having a head-on collision with the car that was carrying the politician,” he said.

Kamau added that no one was injured in the bus but blamed the deceased for joining the highway without checking if there were any incoming cars.

The politician was alone when the accident occurred at 3am and was on his way back to Nairobi after a meeting in Naivasha.

According to witnesses, Jirongo had joined the highway from a petrol station along the highway when the accident occurred, leaving him trapped in the wreck for over an hour.

Jirongo’s death

Speaking on the phone, Naivasha DCIO Isaac Kiama confirmed the incident, adding that the body was taken to Naivasha sub-county hospital before it was later transferred to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.

Kiama said that Jirongo sustained serious injuries to his head and died on the spot before police moved in to retrieve the body and tow away the wreckage.

“There was an accident involving a bus and a personal car along the highway, and in the process we lost former MP Cyrus Jirongo,” he said.

Hours earlier, a couple heading to Naivasha from Kiambu died on the spot after their car rammed into a trailer along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road.

The two were in a fleet of vehicles heading to Naivasha for the long weekend when the accident occurred near High Peak Academy, 10 km from Naivasha town, on Friday evening.

According to Kiama, the driver of the ill-fated car was overtaking a fleet of vehicles when he rammed into the incoming trailer.

“The personal car was at high speed when the accident occurred, and unfortunately the two occupants died on the spot, and the bodies have been taken to the local mortuary,” he said.
