Bodies of 6 Nandi chopper crash victims to be airlifted to Emurua Dikirr
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, March 4, 2026The chairperson of the burial preparation committee for the six victims of the tragic Nandi helicopter crash and Tinderet Member of Parliament Julius Melly has announced that the bodies will be airlifted from Wilson Airport to Emurua Dikirr on Thursday, March 4, 2026, ahead of a joint funeral service and later burial ceremony.
Speaking during a requiem mass at Africa Gospel Church, Karen, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Melly said the families, in consultation with leaders and relatives of the deceased, resolved to have all six bodies transported together and accorded a unified send-off.

“We airlifted the bodies together from Eldoret, and we shall also airlift the bodies from Wilson Airport to Emuruar Dikirr for a joint funeral service, and we are not going to separate the bodies. All six bodies will be handled equally and with dignity, irrespective of the social status or positions they held in society,” Melly stated.
The lawmaker emphasised that the committee had made a firm decision not to separate the bodies at any stage of the burial preparations, noting that the victims shared a common fate and would therefore be honoured collectively, saying that the government would have catered for the costs involved.
Government to cater for funeral expenses
He reiterated that all burial protocols and logistical arrangements had been harmonised to ensure a smooth, organised, and respectful process from the airlifting to the final interment.

Melly further revealed that the government had stepped in to support the bereaved families during this difficult period. He said that the state had agreed to pay for everything, from the moment the bodies were flown from Eldoret after the crash to the last burial plans in Emurua Dikirr. The support, he said, covers transportation, funeral service preparations, and other related expenses to ease the burden on the grieving families.
According to the committee, the airlifting to Emurua Dikirr will allow residents and leaders from the region to participate in a joint funeral service before the victims are laid to rest on Friday. Leaders are expected to attend the ceremony to pay their last respects and stand in solidarity with the families.
The committee says that the airlifting to Emurua Dikirr will let people from the area and leaders from the area attend a joint funeral service before the victims are buried on Friday, March 6, 2026.
