Two Catholic Church bishops have joined a family whose three daughters were gang-raped during a robbery with violence incident at Keroka, Nyamira County, in appealing for speedy investigations and arrest of the assailants.

Bishops Joseph Mairura (Kisii Diocese) and Henry Juma (Kitale Diocese) visited the families of the two senior Nyamira County government officials where the gang-rape and robbery incidents took place two weeks ago.

The clerics termed the incident as horrible and inhumane.

They asked police to collaborate with residents to identify criminals among them.

“We have faith in law enforcement agencies and what we can ask of them is to do speedy investigations so that the families can have peace of mind by bringing the perpetrators to book,” Bishop Mairura said.

Gangs who were armed with guns and machetes are said to have sexually assaulted a minor and two women who are members of the same family before robbing other members of the family of Sh150,000 and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of shillings that included phones, electronics and ATM and credit cards.

Five arrested

“The three victims of rape were later taken to hospital where they were examined and received prophylaxis treatment to prevent possible contraction of sexually transmitted infections and HIV,” said Keroka OCPD Robert Ndambili.

The police boss said five suspects had so far been arrested in connection to the incident and more were being tracked down.

“It was a tormenting experience witnessing children being raped and I could not be able to help them,” Zipporah Okeyo, who is Nominated MCA said.
