Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has revisited the failed impeachment attempt against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, attributing its collapse to the intervention of key figures within the broad-based coalition.

 Speaking to a local radio station on Wednesday, October 10, 2025, Babu decried the intervention of the broad-based principals, President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

While explaining the rot in Nairobi, which he asserted warranted Sakaja’s dismissal, the legislator urged leaders not to condone corruption.

This comes after the women’s representative for Kisumu County, Ruth Odinga, expressed her disappointment after Sakaja was saved from impeachment.

Condoning corruption?

“Up to 104 MCAs in Nairobi expressed their displeasure with how the county was being run and wanted to impeach the governor. It was in broad daylight from ODM and UDA. He, however, was helped by Ruto and Baba. It is not a big deal, but we cannot allow corruption to be condoned as leaders,” he stated.

Association with Kenya Moja

The MP also addressed his association with the Kenya Moja Movement, an emerging third force in Kenyan politics that consists largely of youthful politicians.

He asserted that the faction is intent on fighting for the rights of Kenyans and redressing the wrongs incidental to the current regime.

“Kenya Moja is not for us to gain leadership positions. We want to fight for Kenyans and ensure they earn representation and equality. We are in opposition to ensure Kenyans are served, and we will continue in that resolve,” he stated.

His remarks come days after he explained the vision behind the establishment of the Kenya Moja faction.

In an interview with Kameme on September 4, 2025, Owino stated that while Kenya Moja chiefly consists of youthful politicians, elderly people were equally invited to join in to liberate the country from corruption and bad governance.

“We have almost 70 legislators who are currently associated with the Kenya Moja faction. While a majority of us are youthful, it does not mean that others are excluded from joining us,” Owino said.

Rapidly growing

“This group is rapidly growing, and it will surprise many people because the youth form over 65 per cent of the population.”

Owino equally hinted at joining forces with the Rigathi Gachagua-led United Opposition to ensure that President Ruto is made a one-term president in 2027.

“The Kenya Moja faction is a group of like-minded politicians who are brought together with the goal of fighting for the rights of the masses, just like the United Opposition is doing,” Owino remarked.

“In the future, we are praying that the entire opposition be united so that they can field a single candidate to ensure William Ruto becomes a one-term president. People can start from various factions but later come together,” he added.
