Some people living with HIV are reluctant to return a drug authorities ordered it be removed from the market.

They claim that returning the drug, which the Ministry of Health recalled over standard issues, will amount to destroying evidence, saying they are planning to seek legal redress.

Erick Okioma from Kisumu protested at the order saying it will jeopardise evidence if the company is sued by users for the purpose of seeking compensation.

“Some of us want to institute legal proceedings against the manufacturer. Returning the drugs to health facilities amounts to destroying evidence. It is better for some of us to retain some,” said Okioma adding.

Head of NASCOP Dr Rose Wafula estimates at least half a million packets ofTLD is expected to be returned by clients because of safety cocerns.

TLD is recommended by the World Health Organisation for first-line treatment of HIV. It can also be used in second-line treatment of HIV.
