Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
Super Metro suspension to start
Super Metro is expected to start serving its three-day suspension following a decision by the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB).
This follows a meeting between Super Metro and the regulators on Monday, April 14, 2025.
In a statement, Super Metro revealed that they had been suspended for the next three days to finalize the remaining compliance measures.
“Super Metro Limited wishes to inform the public and our valued customers that we have achieved 90% compliance with the directives issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB). We remain committed to fully adhering to all regulatory requirements to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our passengers,” Super Metro stated.
“Following a hearing with the Transport Licensing Appeals Board today, the Board has directed Super Metro Limited to suspend operations for the next three days to finalize the remaining compliance measures.”
Mudavadi to attend Sudan conference in London
Prime Cabinet Secretary (CS) Musalia Mudavadi is expected to attend the Sudan conference in London on the two-year anniversary of the Sudan conflict.
Mudavadi is expected to present Kenya’s position on regional peace and security in the Greater Horn of Africa, particularly the conflict-ridden Sudan
“During the meeting, Mudavadi will affirm that Kenya supports a unified Sudan for the people of Sudan, advocates for a Sudanese-owned political process with the supportive role of external actors, and Kenya’s opposition to using military solutions to address a political dispute,” read a communiqué on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
Ahead of the meeting UK has called for an urgent Security Council meeting to address the deteriorating situation in Sudan.
IEBC interviews
Interviews for Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners are set to continue on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, with five candidates lined up to face the selection panel.
Among those expected to appear before the Nelson Makanda-led committee are Mustafa Mohamed Ibrahim, Mwanamisi Ali Libondo, Nelly Ilongo, Obadiah Kipkoech Keitany, and Patrick Sanya Otoshwa Odame.
The five will be taken to task to prove their suitability to sit in the electoral body as commissioners.
Parliament Order Paper
Members of Parliament are expected to resume sittings on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Among the issues set to be discussed are Excise Duty (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 7 of 2025), Report of the Committee of the Whole House on its consideration of the Senate Amendments to the Cancer Prevention and Control (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 45 of 2022), consideration of the Report of the Public Accounts Committee on its examination of the report of the Auditor-General on the Financial Statements for the National Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies for the Financial Year 2021/2022, laid on the Table of the House on Friday, March 14, 2025.
MPs are also expected to inquire into the state of security in six counties of North Rift of Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Turkana, West Pokot, Samburu and Laikipia, declared as disturbed, laid on the Table of the House on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
PS nominees consideration
Following the consideration of various candidates nominated for the Principal Secretary positions, the MPs will consider the report on their vetting.
MPs’ consideration report will inform the next step for the 14 nominees.
Weather forecast
The Kenya Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall to continue from Tuesday, April 15, 2025, up to April 21, 2025.
Among areas set to experience isolated rainfall are Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi), Lake Victoria Basin, South-eastern Lowlands, and North-eastern Kenya.
