City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has reacted to Investments, Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria’s remarks on the increase in fuel prices

In a statement shared via his official X account, formerly Twitter, CS Kuria faulted global and climate change as the main factor that has led to the increase in fuel prices which saw the newly reviewed prices increase by Ksh16.96 for Super Petrol, Diesel by Ksh21.32 and Kerosene by Ksh33.13.

The outspoken CS went on to claim that the prices of fuel will hit the Ksh260 mark by February 2024 from the current Ksh200 mark witnessed after the adjusted prices (Ksh211.64 per litre for Super Petrol, Diesel Ksh200.99, and Kerosene Ksh202.61).

While validating his sentiments, the CS claimed that it was important that leaders tell people the hard-knocking truth regardless of how they would react.

“I repeat. Petrol will be 260 Ksh by February. And El Nino is coming in 3 weeks that will last till March. These are global and climate change driven. Responsible leaders ought to tell the truth to prepare the people. You can throw stones at me all you want,” Kuria wrote on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

But in a subsequent rejoinder, the city lawyer wondered why CS Kuria would make such utterances at a time when Kenyans were feeling the heat.

He also questioned why some of the CSs in President William Ruto’s administration were ridiculing and laughing at the poor by making such remarks. The city lawyer expressed disappointment terming Kuria’s remarks as heartless.

“The average Kenyan is really struggling! These are truly hard times! And I really don’t get why H.E Ruto’s employees are laughing and ridiculing the poor…I just don’t get this heartless gloating! Where is empathy for the poor…the downtrodden?” he posed.
