Two persons of interest have been arrested after detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) intercepted a vehicle transporting cannabis worth approximately Ksh4.62 million along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on June 18, 2026, the operation was conducted following a tip-off that a motor vehicle was being used to ferry a large consignment of narcotics.

Detectives laid an ambush along the busy highway and later spotted the vehicle. However, when officers signalled the driver to stop, he allegedly sped off, triggering a high-speed chase towards the Subukia area.

“Acting on a credible tip-off that a suspicious motor vehicle was being used to transport the illicit cargo, detectives laid an ambush along the busy Eldoret–Nakuru Highway,” DCI said in a post.

What DCI recovered

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of seven sacks containing cannabis sativa weighing a total of 154 kilograms. The two persons of interest are currently in police custody and being processed ahead of their court arraignment.

The recovered narcotics have been detained as exhibits, as investigations continue.

“A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered seven bulky sacks of cannabis sativa, weighing a total of 154 kilograms, carefully concealed for transport,” DCI stated.

“The persons of interest are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the recovered narcotics are being detained as exhibits.”

The DCI said the seizure underscores its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
