Just what’s Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi up to? The controversial MP has been rubbing shoulders through his remarks which has been viewed derogatory in some quarters.

Sudi, who is said to have the ear of President William Ruto, has rubbed political feathers in Rift Valley and beyond as he has been holding meetings in his colleague’s jurisdictions without notifying them.

His rallies have most been church functions and assisting victims of calamities like fires where he has been dishing out millions of money inform of contributions.

Just on Sunday last week, Sudi found himself on the receiving end after he organised an event at Moi’s Bridge in Soy constituency, Uasin Gishu county without involving area MP David Kiplagat.

The event was a fundraiser to assist victims of a fire that destroyed property in Moi’s Bridge town, this did not go down well with Kiplagat who felt undermined.

Tempers flared when Kiplagat arrived at the venue of the event with a large group of rowdy youths.

Some youths stormed the podium where several leaders, including governors Jonathan Bii of Uasin Gishu, Wisley Rotich of Elgeyo Marakwet, Simon Kachapin of West Pokot, and MPs Didimus Barasa of Kimilili, Eric Wamumbi of Mathira and Joseph Wainaina (nominated), were gathered.

Kiplagat accused Sudi for dictating the proceedings at an event taking place in his constituency.

A visibly irate Kiplagat compared Sudi’s actions to a man who inherits his neighbour’s wife while the neighbour is still alive.

“We must respect one another. Even if you don’t like my face, the people of Soy elected me and gave me the mandate to serve them,” Kiplagat told Sudi.

But in response, an unshaken Sudi lashed out at his Soy counterpart terming him retrogressive adding that he lacked the capacity to threaten anyone.

“I’ve the right to organise fundraising events in any constituency.

Other leaders are equally free to hold events in my constituency,” said Sudi. He condemned the disruption of the meeting terming it foolishness and backward.

Sudi equally criticised Governor Bii’s administration over what he called poor response to emergencies.

But according to Kiplagat, the county government have emergency funds and should have used them to support business people who lost property in the fire, rather than resorting to fundraising.

“I was Speaker of the Assembly, and we passed emergency funds, which account for two per cent of the total budget. That money should have been used to help traders who lost their property following the inferno,” said the Soy MP.

This is not the first time Sudi is finding himself in trouble for organising an event in another constituency.

Last year, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua accused some politicians from Rift Valley in President William Ruto’s inner circle among them Sudi for fuelling discord in Mount Kenya region. Gachagua had asked leaders to focus on service delivery within their jurisdictions saying it was too early to set the country in a campaign mood.

He said some MPs were interfering with the affairs of their colleagues n a bid to gain political mileage in apparent reference to Sudi.

Sudi has also in the past, clashed with his Kesses counterpart Julius Rutto for holding an event in his constituency without involving him.

Outspoken MP has also taken his war to the doorstep of former DP Rigathi Gachagua accusing him for undermining Ruto’s administration. He has dismissed Gachagua’s claims that he helped President Ruto to get votes in Mount Kenya region.

According to Sudi, there were several other Mt Kenya politicians with the capacity to serve as second-in-command position apart from Gachagua who was impeached by the National Assembly.

He claimed that the former Mathira MP was one of the least preferred of them when the UDA held a vote prior to choosing Ruto’s running mate.

“He (Gachagua) claims that he convened a meeting in his home to strategize on Ruto’s Presidency. This is a pure lie because he was only given the opportunity to serve as running mate just three months before the elections. We had already planned all these things,” Sudi, a close ally to President Ruto claimed.

He said besides Gachagua, there were other leaders from Mount Kenya region who were equally qualified to serve as President Ruto’s running mate. He named Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu), Moses Kuria, William Kabogo, Ann Waiguru, Cecily Mbarire, Kithure Kindiki and even Mithika Linturi as some of the other potential candidates for the seat.
