Depending on the region and sector, 20 percent of enterprises fail during the first year, 50 percent after five years, and 70 percent after 10 years. Research indicates that Kenyan startups have a failure rate of 24 percent a year. Several factors contribute to the high business failure, including limited market prospects, high operational expenses, and challenges in obtaining financing.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics reported that business failure rates continued to be a significant concern in 2024.
