Raila Odinga’s youngest daughter, Winnie Odinga, has recently emerged as one of the most talked-about personalities on the internet.

Central to the buzz has been her resilience in the face of tragedy following her father’s sudden demise on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, while undergoing treatment in India.

The most recent instance was her brave yet emotional tribute to her dad on Friday, October 17, 2025, during her father’s state burial at the Nyayo National Stadium, which left the internet abuzz with many expressing admiration for her unique courage and resilience in the face of tragedy.

In her brief tribute, she stated: “The King is gone, but long live the crown.” She went on to wrap up her speech with a brave rendition of the Jowi Jowi Jowi chant, leaving the massive crowd tearing up.

Stand up and fight for things

In the build-up to the 2022 elections, Winnie similarly made a moving appeal to Kenyans while vouching for her father’s candidacy. She urged the nation to work for what they desired, affirming that nothing worth gaining would come without effort.

“Kenya cannot be better if you don’t fight for it. Nobody will make Kenya better—we will have to fight to make it happen. We have to get up and fight.

“In life, when we talk about things, nobody will give it to you; you have to wake up and fight for them. That won’t come to us sitting down or in the house,” she said while rendering an account of her father.

Sense of individuality

In a different interview after Raila’s failed bid for presidency in the 2022 elections, Winnie painted a picture of an independent mind, one willing to forge her own path, independent of her family’s prominent legacy

“I certainly don’t feel his legacy should just end as if nothing ever happened. But I’m from a generation that has its own thoughts and ambitions. I have played my part and dedicated my life to him. I am always with him and care for him and my mother,” she said in her parting shot.

Defending her EALA nomination

During her much-hyped bid and lobbying for the EALA assembly after the 2022 elections, Winnie also dialled down the undue reference to Raila and her familial ties.

“I have all the qualifications and have achieved them. So, why not me? I am not going to EALA as a representative of the Odinga family. If that had been the case, the Odinga family would have voted me over dinner two days ago,” she stated

“My name, Odinga, has gotten me into trouble, abused and prosecuted, it has also been a blessing and Its a name i would emphatically be proud of and defend,” her response to the perpetual reference of Odinga went during an interview with a local TV station.
