‘You can consider me majority or minority, whichever way you want’ – Furious Junet Mohamed tells Speaker Wetang’ula

Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) Junet Mohamed’s joy and privilege of sitting in the Majority Leader’s position was cut short following Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s decision to retain Kenya Kwanza as the Majority side.
Reacting to the ruling on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Junet charged at the Speaker, telling him to refer to him using the majority or the minority title as he deemed fit.
“Now you can consider me majority or minority, whichever way you can take,” Junet Mohamed sharply told the speaker.

This is after Wetang’ula announced that Kenya Kwanza was the majority, insisting that the court decision did not designate who is the majority and minority.
“I have not received any further communication from Kenya Kwanza Coalition replacing the Member of Parliament for Kikuyu, the member for Kilifi, the member for South Mugirango, and the member for Marsabit County as their preferred leadership in the house.
“Similarly, I have not received communication from the Azimio-One Kenya Coalition party replacing the Suna East MP, the Kathiani MP, the Suba North MP, and the Member for Embakasi West as preferred leadership in the house,” Wetang’ula stated.
“Consequently, the leadership of the house remains unchanged,” he ruled.
Members withdrawn
While lamenting over the speaker’s decision, Junet Mohamed further informed the house that Azimio had withdrawn its members from the Business Committee.
Junet told the house that he had been instructed by the Azimio Parliamentary Group to pull out its members from that critical committee.

I”I have no intention to speak about your ruling Mr Speaker, I want to speak about the matter that is before the house now. Under instructions from our parliamentary group, I have been asked to convey to you on the floor of the house that we have withdrawn our members from the Business Committee.”
“So it will be annulity for the house to pass the membership from our side. Now you can consider me majority or minority, whichever way you can take,” Junet retorted.
Responding to Junet’s threat, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah insisted that the Business Committee was properly constituted without Azimio members.
“The House Business Committee is properly constituted, and with or without the four members of Azimio, the House Business Committee will sit,” Ichung’wah said in a quick rebuttal.
On his side, Wetang’ula reprimanded Junet, accusing him of displaying shenanigans.
“We have a greater duty to the people of Kenya than the shenanigans we want to display here,” Wetang’ula hit back at Junet while overruling his statement.
Some of those proposed to reconstitute the committee are Robert Mbui (Kathiani), Francis Kajwang’ (Ruaraka), Umul Ker Kassim Sheikh (Mandera), and Joshua Mbithi Mwalyo (Masinga), all allied to Azimio.
From the Kenya Kwanza side, Faith Wairimu Gitau (Nyandarua Women Rep), Samuel K. Chepkonga (Ainabkoi), Adan Wehliye Keynan (Eldas), Omboko Milemba (Emuhaya), and Sarah Paulata Korere (Laikipia).
The House Business Committee is charged with the responsibility to prepare and, if necessary, from time to time adjust the Parliamentary Calendar with the approval of the House, monitor, and oversee the implementation of the House Business and programmes.
