Winnie Odinga has proposed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) hold a National Delegates Conference to manage the party’s relationship with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government under the broad-based pact.

Speaking in Mombasa during ODM at 20 celebrations on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Winnie impugned the capacity of the current crop of leaders to make informed decisions for the party, an issue she asserts is best left for the party’s delegates in the absence of Raila.

According to Winnie, many of the leaders who had taken it upon themselves to manage the matter cannot be relied on to do so on behalf of the party.

When it came to the matter of broad-based government, the people of ODM trusted one person to manage that complicated relationship; that person is Baba Raila Odinga,” she stated.

In a brave call to action, Raila’s daughter implored the party’s highest decision-making organ to make its pronouncement on the issue.

“That relationship is complicated, and the people taking upon themselves to manage it now, are they capable of managing that relationship? That is a question for the people to answer. It is why I am requesting we go back to the people and see who the people will pick to handle that relationship,” she stated. We need to go back to the people and have NDC and see who the people want to pick to manage that relationship,” she stated.

Her remarks come days after Oburu Oginga vouched for his capacity to steer the Orange Party after the demise of his younger brother Raila Odinga.

Speaking during the party’s outreach meeting in Mombasa County this Saturday, November 1, 2025, the senator detailed his impressive political CV as crucial in steering the party forward.

Equal to task

Oburu outlined his political longevity, tracing his rise from a mere councillor to one of the country’s longest-serving politicians.

“I have enough experience to lead. I have been a leader for this nation for many years. I began as a councilor in 1974 in Kisumu, as an elected one. I have been elected in Bondo four times, nominated once, and served in the EALA. I am now serving my seventh term in the Kenyan parliament. So I believe I have the experience to lead,” he stated.
