National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has clashed with a journalist after being asked a question about his brother, Tim Wanyonyi’s candidature.

Speaking during a media interview with local radio stations on Thursday, January 22, 2026, the Speaker lashed out at the journalist, telling him, “I am not his spokesman.”

This came after the journalist sought his reaction to Tim Wanyonyi’s recent attack on the Ford Kenya party, where he stated that he can vie on any ticket except that of Ford Kenya.

Wetang’ula listened keenly as the journalist asked the question, and after he finished, the Speaker issued a tough rebuttal, telling him to go and ask Tim directly, insisting that he is not his spokesman.

“Go ask him; I am not his spokesman.” wetang’ula stated

Tim Wanyonyi has been critical of Wetang’ula and the Ford Kenya party in recent times, especially after the party’s loss in the Chwele Kabuchai by-election, where independent candidate Erick Wekesa defeated Ford Kenya’s Vincent Maunda.

Following his victory in Chwele Kabuchai, Erick Wekesa publicly thanked Tim Wanyonyi for supporting and financing his campaign against the Speaker’s Ford Kenya candidate.

Tim Wanyonyi’s attack on the Ford Kenya party has angered a section of party leaders, who have since hit back, led by the party’s Secretary-General.

They stated that they are not interested in giving him the party ticket and that, because of his remarks against the party, they will front a candidate to face him in the 2027 Bungoma gubernatorial race.

Wetang’ula’s  next political step

Wetang’ula also explained that he will only be seeking a higher political office in his next political bid after serving as the speaker of the 13th National Assembly.

Wetang’ula, who has declared his interest in succeeding President William Ruto when his tenure ends, stated that he will not fall into the trend of certain politicians of seemingly going after a different political office of a lower rank after serving in other capacities, such as governor or senator.

“I am looking to do better things ahead. I have seen people running for MPs or senators after serving as governor. You will not see me running for governor or MP. I now can only go up and not back,” he clarified.
