Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now says Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga is not welcome in the Kenya Kwanza government.

Speaking at a church service in Karigu-ini, Kenol, in Murang’a County, on Sunday, October 30, Gachagua told off Raila saying he should focus on the opposition’s role of oversighting the government.

“Yesterday we heard Raila saying that he will not be coaxed or intimidated to joining our government. We have no business with you in our government, we are not interested and we are not looking for you. We have no time (for you),” Gachagua stated.

He maintained that the President William Ruto-led administration has enough people qualified to advise the Head of State.

“They should remain in the opposition to oversight the government by informing us where we are wrong and pushing us in parliament for us to move forward as a country,” Gachagua added.

Gachagua insisted that Raila was the reason the previous administration of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta failed to meet the expectations of the electorate.

The DP was responding to Raila’s claims that the Kenya Kwanza administration has been threatening elected leaders to join the government to get development projects in their regions.

Speaking in Kisumu on Saturday, Raila told the local leadership that development projects should be equally distributed across the country even as he threatened to rally supporters to boycott paying taxes if their areas are neglected.

He urged the leaders, especially governors, not to be intimated by the state, saying that the constitution protects them in undertaking their mandate.

“The national government has the responsibility to carry out certain development projects in all these areas otherwise, we shall tell our people to stop paying taxes. Therefore, we don’t have to go to beg the national government for us to get any development,” Raila told mourners during the burial of Mzee Peter Akoth, a member of the Luo Council of Elders.

At the same time, Raila also pledged to continue keeping the government in check.

“I do not want you to give up. As you can see, I am not tired. Do I look tired? We want to bring change in this country so that the common man benefits. I don’t fight so that I get something or my wife gets something. It is a fight to improve Kenya,” he stated.

He also revealed that he would be making ‘major announcements’ that will pose major results.

“Right now I am like a bird perched on a tree with a message on its chest. There are things that we are working on. At the right time, I will give you a direction that we will follow. That time is yet to come but it will come,” Raila added.
