Wamuchomba hails Matiang’i after his endorsement as Jubilee’s flag bearer
Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has hailed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i following his endorsement as Jubilee’s 2027 flag bearer.
In a statement shared by the MP on her social media platforms on Thursday, October 30, 2025, Wamuchomba, who in the recent past has been working closely with the former Interior Cabinet Secretary, expressed her confidence in his candidature, saying that he has what it takes to fix the country.
“Congratulations, FM, on your nomination as Deputy Party Leader of the Jubilee Party. Certainly, you have what it takes to fix this land. Happy for you,” Wamuchomba said.
This comes after Matiang’i was named as the party’s flag bearer and Jubilee’s deputy party leader. This followed deliberations by the National Executive Council (NEC) held at the party’s headquarters, chaired by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who joined the meeting virtually.

While expressing their full commitment to the united opposition after months of fence-sitting during which the party was often perceived as leaning more toward the government than the opposition, the Jubilee Party reaffirmed its dedication to the opposition.
The party authorised its candidate, Matiang’i, to represent Jubilee in the opposition formation.

Jubilee’s Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni stated that he would formally write to the leadership of the United Opposition to communicate Matiang’i’s appointment as the party’s preferred flag bearer.
“We have resolved that Matiang’i represents us at the United Opposition. On top of that, we have formally received his application to be the presidential candidate, and the NEC has approved and resolved that he now carries the flag of the Jubilee Party as the presidential candidate,” Kioni said.
Wamuchomba-Matiang’i bromance
Wamuchomba, who was once aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has developed a close political relationship with Matiang’i, something that has drawn public attention.

Many observers have speculated that she stands a high chance of landing a major position should Matiang’i become a presidential candidate.
She recently came out strongly to criticise a section of united opposition leaders led by Gachagua and Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala after they appeared to accuse Jubilee and attack Matiang’i following his attendance at the Jubilee Party’s National Delegates Conference held at Ngong Racecourse.
