Wamalwa hints at picking Salasya to replace Savula as DAP-K deputy party leader
Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugene Wamalwa has hinted at settling on Mumias East MP Peter Salasya to take over as the Deputy Party Leader of the party after Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, who was holding the position, openly endorsed David Ndakwa of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
While speaking during an interview on Friday, November 14, 2025, Wamalwa said that since Ayub Savula, who is one of the deputy party leaders, has decided to join the other side, there can be no vacuum, and Peter Salasya has the capacity to fill that position.
With Eugene Wamalwa being deputised by three deputies, Salasya will become the Second Deputy Party Leader, alongside Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi.

“Tulikuwa tume kubaliana, my second deputy party leader a codinate by-election campaigns za Kakamega lakini juzi akaponyoka, bado tuna viongozi ambao watachukuwa nafasi yake, tuko na PK salasya who is qualified to replace Ayub Savula as the second party leader,” Wamalwa said
Eugene Wamalwa continued to state that they had planned as a party for Ayub Savula to help in popularising Seth Panyako’s bid in Malava, but at the last minute, Ayub Savula switched sides to support UDA candidate David Ndakwa.
He went on to state that there is no problem, since it is Savula’s democratic right to support whoever he chooses.
He went on to heap praises on Peter Salasya, saying that he has emerged numerous times as one of the best-performing MPs from Western Kenya. Despite being in the opposition and relying only on the limited funds from CDF, he has surpassed other MPs who are government-aligned and have the ability to ask for funds from the President. According to Eugene, Salasya has already outsmarted them.
The awarding of a party position was hinted at by Wamalwa earlier in 2025 when the party was holding an NDC at Chui House in Karen.
Savula endorsing Ndakwa
This comes days after Ayub Savula, who was set to spearhead DAPK campaigns in Malava, ditched the party’s standing to endorse David Ndakwa of the United Democratic Alliance

Wamalwa has also extended the olive branch to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale to join his party should his party continue with plans to reprimand him for shifting his allegiance to the opposition.
