Wahome Thuku: Kanini Kega is Ruto’s man from hair to toes
By David Nthua, July 14, 2026Lawyer Wahome Thuku has stated that East African Legislative Assembly MP Kanini Kega is a strong ally of President William Ruto.
Writing on Facebook on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Thuku described Kega as a brilliant but highly calculated politician.
The lawyer also said Kega’s association with Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party is driven by his ambition to recapture the Kieni parliamentary seat.
“Kanini Kega is a very, very brilliant gentleman. Kanini is a William Samoei Ruto man, hair to toes,” Thuku wrote.
He claimed Kega was using his presence at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence and his membership in DCP to prepare for the 2027 Kieni parliamentary contest.

“He is in Wamunyoro for the Kieni seat. He will give the burnt sacrifice at Gitungati shrine for it,” Thuku stated, using metaphorical language to suggest that Kega would do whatever was politically necessary to secure the DCP ticket.
Kega left Jubilee and officially joined Gachagua’s DCP in February 2026. The former Kieni MP has since declared his intention to contest the constituency seat on a DCP ticket in the 2027 General Election.
Thuku predicts political fallout with Gachagua
Thuku further predicted that Kega would distance himself from Gachagua after securing election to the National Assembly.
“Once in Parliament, Gachagua will only see Kanini’s brake lights once, twice, and then they disappear around the corner,” he said.
The statement portrayed Kega’s relationship with Gachagua as a temporary electoral arrangement rather than a permanent political alliance.
Thuku did not provide evidence supporting his claim that Kega remains politically loyal to Ruto. Kega had also not publicly responded to the lawyer’s remarks by the time of publication.

The claims expose growing suspicion within opposition circles over politicians who previously worked with Ruto or supported his administration before joining parties opposed to the President.
Thuku questions the reported Ol Kalou attack
He suggested that Kega was capable of using “some drama” or an “imaginary shooting” to attract political attention and outshine his competitors.
However, Thuku presented no evidence that the reported attack was staged. Police investigations into the incident had not established that Kega fabricated his account.
In a tense Facebook video recorded after the incident, Kega appeared visibly shaken as he claimed armed police officers had pursued his convoy, pointed guns at him and damaged his vehicle.

The EALA legislator said he and members of his team escaped and sought refuge inside a private residence near Ol Joro Orok.
He later displayed damage to his vehicle and what he described as a live bullet and part of a firearm recovered after the confrontation.
Kega said the items were handed to officers at Kasuku Police Station for investigation.
Nyandarua police subsequently opened investigations into his account.
No official findings identifying the attackers or confirming the circumstances surrounding the damaged vehicle had been released by publication time.
