Vihiga Senator Osotsi asks ODM members to respect Sifuna

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy leader Godfrey Osotsi has called on the members of the party to accord Secretary General Edwin Sifuna the respect he deserves.
Speaking on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Osotsi stressed that Sifuna’s position as the party’s secretary general designates him as a bonafide spokesperson mandated to speak on behalf of the party.
Official statements
The Senator lamented that a spate of verbal attacks directed at the Nairobi Senator from a section of members of the party have been witnessed.
“Sifuna is the official spokesperson of the party, after the party leader, he is the official spokesperson of the party as the secretary general. He speaks on behalf of the central management committee. I get upset when we meet as a central management committee and issue a statement read by Sifuna and immediately afterwards he is attacked for reading a statement processed by the committee. It is out of order; when he speaks in an official meeting it’s the party position,” Osotsi posited.
The Vihiga Senator has further demanded that members desist from a trend he claims might pose dire consequences to the unity of the party if left unchecked.
“When he (Sifuna) speaks in our official meeting it’s the party position. I’m asking them to slow down, we are not saying people should not air their opinions, rather, let them speak their minds within the confines of the rules governing the party,” he added.
Osotsi’s remarks come amid a simmering division within the party that has prompted the convening of the meeting scheduled for Sunday, February 9, 2025.
Calling out government
During a funeral service of the Kenya National Commission of Human Rights’s Roseline Odede, Senator Sifuna had hit out at ODM leaders over what he termed as sycophancy with the ruling administration.
“We must stop being sycophants. If something is wrong, it is wrong. I will not participate in the activities of my fellow ODM members who are enjoying the fruits of being in Ruto’s government and are stifling my efforts to call out the government,” Sifuna said.
