The united opposition bigwigs led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have folded their sleeves, ready for a political duel with President William Ruto’s side ahead of the planned mini-polls on November 27, 2025.

For now, it is a matter of watch and see who will blink first, with each side flexing its political muscles.

On Sunday, November 16, 2025, the opposition bigwigs toured Embu County, and to be specific, Mbeere North.

Opposition tours Mbeere North

The United Opposition has intensified its ground operations as the political storm builds ahead of the Mbeere North by-election.

Party leaders, who have been moving in one coordinated force, have said the region has already made its decision, and the momentum is now unstoppable.

DAP-K Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa set the tone early in the day, saying the unity on display in Embu signals a major shift.

He stated that “Ishiara ni ishara ya kwamba the WANTAM die is cast in the Mt Kenya region”, adding that their joint campaigns have officially kicked off with overwhelming energy.

Wamalwa explained that the team began its first leg in Kanyuambora, proceeded to Kabubua, and concluded in Ishiara, where chants of #WANTAM dominated the evening air.

He said the unity of purpose exhibited on the ground has confirmed that the alliance has realised that unity is no longer optional but mandatory for the success of their agenda.

The next joint rally will be held in Magarini, Kilifi County, before the team returns to Malava in Kakamega County for the final phase of opposition campaigns.

Wamalwa emphasised that the coalition’s resolve has never been stronger.

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka also echoed the growing confidence, praising residents for standing firm.

He said Kabubua Market has shown real power, telling the crowd: “Mbeere North mko tayari kwa Operation Funga Viosks, mko clear na WANTAM, na mko committed ku komboa Kenya.”

Kalonzo insisted that on November 27, voters will speak loudly by electing Newton Karish “overwhelmingly.” He maintained that the people are prepared to “show the world how they decide matters.”

Former National Assembly Speaker and Democratic Party Leader Justin Muturi delivered an even stronger message.

He said the region has displayed courage he has never witnessed before.

“The intimidation has failed, the bribery has flopped, and the threats have only hardened the resolve of our people. Mbeere North is awake,” he declared.

Muturi praised residents for choosing dignity and truth over manipulation. He reaffirmed his support for Karish, calling him “the true voice of the people.”
