UDA orders repeat party elections in disputed polling centres
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has ordered fresh party elections in polling centres where its recent grassroots polls were either not held or recorded low participation.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, UDA said the decision was made by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) after a meeting. NEC ordered the National Election Board to conduct the election within 30 days.

The move affects several areas across the country and is aimed at resolving disputes and restoring confidence in the party’s internal electoral process. The ruling party said the decision followed concerns raised over how some of the earlier elections were conducted, including complaints from members who felt left out or inadequately involved.
The NEC directed the party’s elections body to move with speed and ensure all affected members are given another opportunity to participate. In outlining its first directive, the party said the repeat polls must be conducted within a specific timeline.
“The NEC further directed the NEB to: Organise and conduct repeat elections within 30 days, effective today, in all polling centres where either election did not take place, or there was no adequate participation of party members in the election,” the statement reads.

Beyond the repeat polls, the NEC said the exercise would be followed by a wider round of party elections at the ward level once the disputed centres are addressed.
“Organise and conduct ward-level party elections across the country within 30 days upon the conclusion of the repeat elections specified in the foregoing paragraph,” the statement reads.
The party leadership also said proper planning and member awareness would be critical ahead of the fresh elections, directing that a clear roadmap be put in place.
“Develop a calendar for sensitisation of members and registration of aspirants for various seats available in the repeat elections and the ward elections,” the statement reads.

In addition, the NEC approved changes to the party’s grassroots leadership structure, specifically at the ward level, as part of strengthening internal democracy.
“The NEC approved the proposal for the establishment of the Ward Executive Committee comprising (7) members who shall be elected by the Ward Congress, an electoral college comprising all the officials of the Polling Stations,” UDA’s statement reads.
The party further addressed ongoing disputes arising from the concluded elections, directing its dispute resolution body to fast-track pending cases.
“The NEC further directed the ENDRC to conclude the resolution of any disputes that may have been filed in accordance with the procedures established in the party constitution.”
UDA said the measures are intended to ensure fairness, inclusivity, and order as the party prepares for future political contests at both local and national levels.
