Two United Democratic Alliance (UDA) MPs from the Kisii community over the weekend came under scathing attack from Nyamira leaders for what they termed as undermining and discrediting the candidature of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i for the presidency.

The leaders led by Nyamira Senator Okongo Omogeni took issue with MPs Sylvanus Osoro (South Mugirango MP) and Japheth Nyakundi (MP, Kitutu Chache North) terming them as political enemies and traitors.

Speaking during a burial ceremony at Misesi in Borabu constituency, Omogeni said it was unfortunate and regrettable that a leader of Osoro’s calibre could stand in public and make a declaration claiming that the Kisii community has not matured in producing a presidential candidate.

“I want to tell Osoro that his utterances were not only an embarrassment to himself but also an abuse to the community. He must apologize if he wants peace with the community which has already decided that it could field a presidential candidate come the next general elections “Omogeni stated.

Omogeni who is elected through the ODM party ticket said that the Kisii community has many people qualified for the seat of presidency contrary to what Osoro was preaching and peddling but the community had settled on Matiang’i to carry its presidential flag come 2027.

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko who is also elected through the UDA ticket has declared that come the next elections, he will support Matiangi’s candidature.

“Every community in Kenya is now busy uniting its members so that they can vote for one of its own for the seat of presidency. The Kisii community is not exceptional and it must also be united and support one of its own,” he stated.

Nakuru Town West MP Samwel Arama who also comes from Nyamira asked leaders from the community to discard their petty political differences, be united and rally the community behind Matiang’i. Arama said that for a long time, the Kisii community has been used as a ladder by other community leaders to ascend to senior political seats in the country after which they dump it and therefore it was high time such moves were rejected.
