Butere MP and Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chair Tindi Mwale has declared firm support for President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga in the war against corruption, vowing to use his oversight role in Parliament to strengthen accountability and protect public resources.

Speaking on Sunday, August 31, 2025, during President Ruto’s visit to St Peter’s ACK Cathedral in Alego Usonga, Siaya County, Mwale said his committee will fully back the government’s renewed anti-graft push.

“As chair of public accounts, we are supporting Baba Raila and Ruto to fight corruption. Show us the corrupt individuals, and we will help you fight the menace,” he affirmed.

His remarks reflect growing bipartisan resolve under the March 7, 2025, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and ODM, designed to promote national cohesion, inclusivity, and joint action on key governance issues.

Ruto and Raila on corruption

Mwale’s support comes at a critical moment when President Ruto and Raila are spearheading a robust campaign against entrenched graft.

During the Katiba Day celebration at KICC on August 27, President Ruto warned the Judiciary against bribery allegations, popularly referred to as “jury pesa”, stressing that the integrity of the courts was central to restoring public trust.

“If the institution mandated to dispense justice is perceived as corrupt, it undermines the very Constitution it is sworn to protect,” he stated.

The Head of State doubled down a few days later in Kapsabet at the installation of Bishop John Arap Lelei, declaring that no individual, regardless of position or influence, would be spared in the anti-graft drive. He cited the recent revocation of licences for 1,000 hospitals accused of misappropriating public funds as proof of his administration’s determination.

Siaya development agenda

Ruto’s Siaya visit, attended by key leaders including Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi and Opiyo Wandayi, Governor James Orengo, and Senator Oburu Odinga, also centred on development projects.

The President commissioned new water and market initiatives aligned with the MoU’s development goals. Governor Orengo announced the Siaya International Trade and Investment Conference (SITICO 2025), slated for October 14-17, which aims to position the county as a regional investment hub.

Mwale underscored that his position as PAC chair is pivotal in advancing this agenda, as he pledged to intensify scrutiny of government expenditure, seal loopholes for wastage, and ensure officials are held accountable.
