The Westlands Member of Parliament, Tim Wanyonyi, has explained the turnaround of events that led him to declare his bid to run for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.

In a statement on his official X account on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Wanyonyi narrated how he received numerous calls from Bungoma residents asking him to go back and serve them

On his part, he noted that at one point, his supporters dared to put him in a bus and escort him from Nairobi back to his hometown, Bungoma County.

“I listened to many people before deciding to come and serve my people back home. I received overwhelming requests. At some point, I was even told that if I did not accept, they would come, put me in a bus and escort me from Nairobi back home themselves,” Wanyonyi said.

“In the end, I had to sit down and make a decision for the good of my home county. To me, it does not matter how much I may have done for the people of Nairobi if my home remains in darkness when I have the capacity and can take responsibility to help it shine,” he added.

On his part, the now Westlands Member of Parliament shared his ambitions of working with everyone while seeking to allow the people of Bungoma see the value of devolution

Wanyonyi also noted that he seeks to help farmers get value for what they grow by empowering local contractors, building the capacity of youths and women in their groups, and strengthening them economically.

Worth noting, in July of 2025, Wanyonyi affirmed his readiness to serve the people of Bungoma County after years of political service in the capital.

At the time, Wanyonyi stated that his move is motivated by both a personal connection to the county and a desire to address its challenges.

“Politics has a lot of things; I have been a politician serving in Nairobi for a very long time. Bungoma County is home and both areas have specific needs; I have been holding consultative meetings with leaders from Bungoma and others in Nairobi, including my party leader,” he said.
