Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has declared that he will only support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for the presidency in the 2027 general election.

In a statement on his X account on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Amisi said his backing for Sifuna is unwavering, adding that his position would only change if the senator opted not to contest the presidency and instead supported what he termed the country’s old guards.

“It must be very clear to naysayers that the only person I will support for president of the Republic of Kenya in 2027 is Edwin Sifuna,” Amisi said.

Possible fallout

The outspoken legislator said that should Sifuna decline to run and instead support established political figures, “there will be some breaking news,” hinting at a possible shift in his political direction without elaborating further.

“If he does not vie and choose to support the same old guards we want to remove from the political scene , then there will be some breaking news!”

Amisi said Kenya’s younger generation must seize the opportunity to reshape the country’s leadership, insisting that political change should not be based on favours or personal interests.

“We must achieve the call of our generation na sio tafadhali,” he said.

The MP maintained that he has consistently championed generational change in the country’s leadership and would not abandon that position to appease political interests.

“I have been very consistent on my call for generational change, and I will not back down to please some egos,” he added.

Crackdown within the faction

The remarks adds to the visible cracks beginning to emerge within the Linda Mwananchi movement despite the growing popularity that the Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna-led outfit has enjoyed in recent months.

The movement, which began as a platform for dissenting Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members opposed to the party’s political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election, has steadily gained traction across the country.

What started as a small resistance group within ODM has since evolved into a broader political movement, attracting support from leaders and ordinary Kenyans beyond the party’s traditional base.

In recent weeks, however, Amisi has increasingly distanced himself from the movement.

He has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the direction Linda Mwananchi has taken and has announced plans to launch a new political outfit, the Renaissance Movement, also known as the People’s Movement.

“The Linda Mwananchi did not understand its initial assignment and has deviated from its original course. That is why I want to form a new movement that will continue with the struggle,” Amisi said.
