Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua now claims that since time immemorial, the blue colour has been a reserved symbol of the PCEA women’s guild and thus should not be the official colour of the police uniform. He affirmed that the Kenya Kwanza administration would revert the recent reforms in the National Police Service.

Gachagua defended his earlier sentiments about their coalition’s plans of replacing the blue police uniform should they ascend to power in August.

“Status and symbols must be respected and protected. The women’s Guild uniform is a symbol for our mothers in PCEA church, and thus what it represents cant be changed at the whims of a few civil servants,” he said.

Speaking during Kenya Kwanza’s political lap in Kiambu county, the lawmaker accused Interior CS Fred Matiang’i of changing the police uniform without consulting the officers.

He claimed that the change disgruntled police officers, and it is now upon their coalition to effect satisfactory changes should they emerge victorious in August.

“I said we would replace the blue police uniform, but certain quarters attempted to misquote me. I meant that the blue colour had been the symbol of members of the PCEA women’s guild since time immemorial. Even learning institutions don’t copy the uniform colours of other schools.

“Matiang’i unprocedurally changed the police uniform without considering that the blue colour has been a reserved symbol of members of the PCEA women’s guild. Police officers have also requested that we replace the blue uniform since it was imposed on them,” he said.
