Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has castigated President William Ruto, claiming that he is shifting his development agenda from the Western region to Nyanza.

Speaking on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at a funeral, the Senate Majority Whip accused the head of state of neglecting those who supported him in the 2022 elections following his newfound bromance with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Khalwale indicated that the western region had been reduced to spectators, watching Nyanza unfurl red carpets for Ruto while receiving development projects.

Without mincing his words, the vocal senator told the residents that he was not in support of Ruto’s action.

President William Ruto, mimi ndio nilimleta Western province, na sasa hivi sisi wenye tulimpigia kura bado tuko na wale wenye walikuwa wanapiga yeye wakiongozwa na Raila kule Nyanza sasa huko ndio naona maendeleo yote na kila kitu kwa TV imeenda huko,” Khalwale stated.

I want to beg the president that you cannot expect me to be happy, to be supportive of your actions kama unafanyia wale walikuwa wanakupinga ufanyii sisi ambao tulikupigia kura,” he added.

Which loosely translates to:

“I brought President William Ruto to Western Province, and now we are seeing that all development projects have been diverted to Nyanza, yet they opposed him while being led by Raila Odinga,” Khalwale stated.

“I want to beg the president that you cannot expect me to be happy, to be supportive of your actions if you are doing this to those who opposed you and you are not doing it to us who supported you,” he added.

Betrayal

This is not the first time Khalwale has accused Ruto of betraying the Western region. In April 2025, the vocal lawmaker said the Western region had many stalled projects that the Head of State had publicly promised to complete.

“It is now three years, and we have stalled roads, and the story is the same. We will do this; we will complete that. We are appealing to the president about the issue of doing this and that, and yet we have finished two years, and we are in the third year of his term. We do not want such kind of politics which is unreliable, and we want the politics that will deliver what had been promised,” Khalwale said.

The Senate Majority Whip urged the president to fulfill all promises made to Western residents.
