Embattled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary general and Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna has confirmed that he has officially notified Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen about his upcoming Linda Mwanachi Kakamega rally scheduled for this Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Amalemba Grounds, Kakamega.

Speaking on the floor of the Senate on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Sifuna said that he had already sent the notification for the Kakamega rally to the Kakamega OCPD and that he was going to send the same notification to the Senate WhatsApp group.

According to Sifuna, Murkomen is still an active member of the Senate WhatsApp group, having been a former senator, and he reads all the communications on the said social media platform.

By sending the notification to the WhatsApp group, Sifuna says he is sure Murkomen was going to read it, noting that he should not later tell the country that he was not aware of the Kakamega Linda Mwananchi meeting.

“By the way, that individual called Murkomen is still on the Senate WhatsApp group because he is a former senator. In fact, I have taken advantage of that. Yesterday I saw him say that he was not aware that we were going to Kitengela; I have sent a notification on the Kakamega rally that we have made to the OCPD of Kakamega to his WhatsApp number, and I am going to send it to the Senate WhatsApp group because he reads our messages there, although he is not a senator, so that he does not come and tell the country tomorrow that he was not aware that we were going to have a meeting in Kakamega,” Sifuna said.

Messaging Murkomen

The vocal senator also took to his official Facebook account to state that he was also going to send the notification to Murkomen’s personal WhatsApp number.

“Since Murkomen remains on the Senate WhatsApp group as a former senator, I have shared the notice for the Kakamega rally both in the group and directly to his personal WhatsApp number so he cannot later claim he was unaware of the event as he did with the Kitengela rally,” Sifuna wrote.

Kitengela rally

Sifuna’s clarification comes a day after Murkomen publicly accused him of failing to notify police ahead of the chaotic Kitengela rally, which turned violent and left one person dead.

The police lobbed teargas during the Kitengela rally, leading to the meeting ending prematurely.

During the chaos, the police fired live ammunition, leading to the death of a 28-year-old man, with several others left injured.
