Sankok lauds Raila for willingness to work with his political rivals

East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) member David Ole Sankok has heaped praises on Raila Odinga for his record of reconciling with his perceived political opponents.
Speaking during a church function in Kilgoris on Sunday, April 13, 2025, he extolled Raila’s exemplary willingness to shelve personal interests and reconcile with his opponents for the better of the country.
Broad-based government
“We brought the broad-based government specifically to unite Kenyans. We brought Raila Odinga, for he is the King of Peace. He was jailed by Moi for nine years, but later he made peace and united for the KANU and NDP merger,” Sankok said.
While detailing Raila’s willingness to engage with his political nemesis, Sankok said this is proof of Raila’s efforts for peaceful resolution of conflicts.
“Raila was also involved in a political tussle with Mwai Kibaki for many years but later joined up to be one. So Raila Odinga loves peace. He also had run-ins with Uhuru Kenyatta but later worked together. The same was witnessed when we said we would take him to Bondo in the 2022 elections, but he is now working with Ruto,” Sankok added.
The legislature further defended the broad-based government, stating that those opposed to the framework should be dismissed.

Sankok’s comment comes a day after President Ruto showered praises on former Raila, recognizing his leadership and support.
Speaking on Saturday, April 12, 2025, during the funeral ceremony of George Oduor, Raila’s long-serving bodyguard, Ruto openly expressed his admiration and appreciation for the ODM leader’s decision to stand with him.
Ruto on Raila
“I have come a long way with Honourable Raila Odinga. And I want to say this: I did not know that the man I stood by and gave my all to at a moment in my life, we would eventually become competitors and that he would eventually come and anchor my leadership,” Ruto said.
“And so, the Honourable Prime Minister, I want to tell you that I am truly grateful. I want to tell you that just the same way I stood with you when you needed a man to, is the way you have stood with me.”
“When Baba came to stand with me, it wasn’t about him or his interests; it was about the greater good of Kenya. History is going to judge the Honourable Raila Odinga fairly; whenever there is an opportunity to stand for the nation, he has always stood for the nation. I am very, very proud that our paths crossed, and we have come to this journey together,” he added.
