Ruto wanted to enrich himself using NSSF – Atwoli explains fallout with Uhuru
Trade unionist Francis Atwoli is alleging that one of the reasons President Uhuru Kenyatta fell out with his deputy William Ruto is ‘mismanagement’ of National Social Security Fund (NSSF)
During a televised interview on Wednesday, February 2, Atwoli said that immediately Ruto took office as the second in command, he made changes at NSSF without proper consultation and adherence to the law.
“When Deputy President took office, he summoned my executive board and told the board that he had an interest in NSSF,” Atwoli said.
The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General said that the NSSF board took a look at the DP’s proposals and asked for a feasibility study before activation of the proposals stating that billions of Kenyan shillings would be lost if due process was not followed.
“Within a month he (Ruto) had reshuffled the NSSF board. He came up with many interferences in many places and I think the President thought about it and said that he might leave a bad legacy because of what Ruto was doing,” Atwoli said.
Atwoli further accused Ruto of being in a hurry to enrich himself through his office as the Deputy President.
“He had a hurry and an appetite for enriching himself. He wanted to outshine his boss,” Atwoli said.
