Ruto begins his 3-day tour ahead of Madaraka Celebrations

President William Ruto is set to begin a three-day tour of the Nyanza region today ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in Homa Bay County.

According to the official itinerary, the Head of State will start in Kisumu by commissioning 901 units under phase one of the LAPFUND Makasembo affordable housing project, which targets 1,870 units upon completion.

Ruto will then proceed to Kirembe to launch the Lake Victoria Point affordable housing project.

The president will kick off his Homa Bay Tour in Ndhiwa Constituency, where he will launch the construction of Gor Mahia Ring Road in Magina and launch Ndhiwa Technical Training Institute (TTI) in Kanyamwa Kologi ward.

The visit is one of several the Head of State has made to the region over the past year as he seeks to transform the goodwill generated by the soft handshake with Raila into political gains.

In Homa Bay, Interior PS Raymond Omollo and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Charles Kahariri led the National Celebrations Steering Committee to inspect Raila Odinga Stadium, where the event will take place.

The President will also visit Migori and Homa Bay counties, where he will meet local leaders and launch additional projects.

Blue economy and infrastructure projects

On Friday, May 30 2025, Ruto will preside over the closing of the Blue Economy Conference at Tom Mboya University (TMU) and commission a new university building.

He will also officially launch the Kenya School of Law (KSL) and TMU Maritime Centre of Excellence, a joint initiative aimed at training professionals to support the Blue Economy, which is increasingly being positioned as a key economic frontier for the country.

The Head of State will later tour the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) pier and fish market, before visiting the new Rangwe Sub-County headquarters and inspecting ongoing road infrastructure projects in the region.

Saturday and Madaraka Day

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, Ruto will host a meeting with Homa Bay leaders at the State Lodge from 4:00 pm.

The national spotlight will be on Homa Bay on Sunday, June 1, when the President leads Kenyans in marking Madaraka Day at the Raila Odinga Stadium.

Following the official ceremony, the President will attend a state luncheon and later spend the afternoon at the MFA Wire Forest in Kasipul.

This marks the first time the Madaraka Day celebrations are being held at the newly renamed Raila Odinga Stadium.
