Ruto proposes a broad-based negotiating team to implement UDA-ODM agenda
President William Ruto has proposed the formation of a broad-based negotiating team to oversee the full implementation of the joint United Democratic Alliance (UDA)-Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) agenda.
Speaking during the ODM-UDA Joint Broad-based Parliament Group Meeting on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Ruto said that the broad-based team comprises members from both parliaments.
The proposal comes as the partnership between the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) marks its first anniversary.
“We will be recommending in this PG that we have a broad-based negotiating team comprising members from both parliaments,” Ruto said.

While the “broad-based” government was initially formed to stabilise the country following the 2024 protests, the new team is tasked with shifting the focus from crisis management to a long-term legislative and developmental roadmap.
According to Ruto, the broad-based team has numbers to drive it through both houses of parliament, and therefore, if they decide, the parliament will automatically decide.
He challenged the members to raise the standards in order to establish a broad-based negotiating committee to assist them with the legislation in parliament, by NADCO.
“I want us to raise standards a bit so that we establish a broad – based negotiating committee to assist us on all the items that have been presented; 4 legislations in parliament by NADCO,” Ruto said.

Ruto further praised the broad-based partnership, saying that they have won most of the by-election seats in the recently concluded elections.
He said that all the parliamentary elections held have been won by the broad-based.
“Of the four seats that were contested in the previous by-elections, the broad-based government won them again for a good record,” Ruto stated.
Broad-based notable victories
Among the major wins for the broad-based partners in the recently concluded by-elections were all six National Assembly seats.

Meanwhile, its partner in government, the Orange Democratic Movement, also made a clean sweep of the parliamentary contest it was involved in.
ODM bagged wins in Magarini, where Harrison Kombe trounced his competitor, Stanley Kenga, to reclaim the seat he won in 2022 before a high court annulled the results.
The party also retained its seats in Kasipul, where youthful aspirant Boyd Were was declared the new MP after defeating Nashon Philip Aroko, who ran on an independent ticket.
