President William Ruto leads the race for the country’s top seat should a presidential election be held today, according to a new opinion poll released by Infotrak.

Based on the findings released on Sunday, December 28, 2025, the survey places the incumbent, who is actively seeking his re-election in the 2027 general election, at the top with 28 per cent support, giving him a commanding lead over other potential contenders. The findings suggest that despite ongoing political and economic debates, Ruto retains a significant base of support among voters.

Ruto’s early lead

President Ruto’s top rank comes weeks after he publicly declared that he has no competitor in the forthcoming presidential election. The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leader recently said it was only the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga, who could have challenged him at the ballot.

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary and Jubilee Party presidential candidate nominee in the particular general polls, Fred Matiang’i, emerges second with 13 per cent, positioning him as a strong choice. Matiang’i has lately revealed that he will bank on Kenyans to finance his 2027 presidential campaigns amid working with the United Opposition in a bid to unseat President William Ruto in 2027.

Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka follows closely in third place with 12 per cent. His ranking comes shortly after he announcing that the United Opposition will be able to front its flagbearer by the first quarter of 2026.

While speaking during an interview with Kameme TV aired on Friday, December 26, 2025, the former vice president affirmed that before the beginning of April, the united opposition would have solved the puzzle of who would face President William Ruto in the 2027 general elections.

“I think that is what is going to unite us more. And of course, we are hoping before the year gets underway. I personally think within the first quarter, we should have agreed on who our flagbearer is, because, again, Kenyans want certainty to be able to plan and to make sure that William Ruto will not rig the coming election,” he said.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino ranks fourth with 7 per cent. The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua records 5 per cent, placing him fifth in the poll.

The People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader, Martha Karua and former Chief Justice David Maraga each garner 2 per cent support, indicating limited but measurable backing among respondents.

The poll paints a picture of a fragmented opposition landscape, with no single challenger currently matching President Ruto’s support levels.
