Preparations are in top gear ahead of the much-anticipated Kisumu Wabiro rally set to take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Kirembe Grounds in Kisumu, with organisers expressing confidence that all arrangements are in place for the major Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) event.

Leaders overseeing the preparations said the venue is almost fully ready to host thousands of party supporters and guests expected from across the country and beyond.

Speaking at the venue of the rally on Saturday, May 30, 2026, Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, who is in charge of entertainment for the event, said organising teams have been working around the clock for the past three days to ensure the rally is a success.

He said extensive work has been carried out at the grounds, including slashing grass, cleaning the venue and setting up key facilities to accommodate attendees.

“We have spent days and nights here making sure everything is in place. What we have done here is a state-of-the-art preparation. As we speak, we are at 97.7 per cent readiness and we are determined to give our guests the very best of ODM,” Jalang’o stated.

He noted that the event will not only focus on politics but will also feature entertainment from leading Luo musicians, including Prince Indah, Elisha Toto, Abongo Jakabwana and Onyi Papa Jay.

Jalang’o urged residents to attend the rally in large numbers and invite friends and family members to witness what he described as a historic event.

ODM unity on display

Seme MP James Nyikal said the rally is aimed at strengthening ODM and reaffirming unity among party members across the region.

According to Nyikal, the party has conducted extensive mobilisation campaigns in the lead-up to the event, including roadshows and meetings with youth groups, boda boda operators and residents in various sub-counties.

“Kisumu Wabiro is a major ODM function whose main objective is to strengthen our party. We want people from all walks of life to come together and demonstrate solidarity with ODM,” he said.

Nyikal revealed that organisers are expecting up to 30,000 people to attend the rally, adding that all key facilities, including the main podium and designated areas for attendees, have already been prepared.

He emphasised that the gathering will send a strong message about the party’s unity and continued influence in the region.

Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro, who also serves as secretary of the planning committee, assured supporters that security and logistical arrangements have been finalised.

Security measures

Oraro said the organising committee has put in place measures to ensure the event runs smoothly and safely.

“I want to confirm to the whole world that we are ready for tomorrow. We have put in place all the measures necessary to ensure this mega rally is successful. In terms of security, everything is top-notch and in terms of organisation, everything is top-notch,” he said.

He called on residents to turn up in large numbers from early morning, noting that the rally will provide a platform for key declarations by party leaders.

The Kisumu Wabiro rally is expected to bring together ODM leaders, supporters and invited guests in what organisers describe as a significant moment for the party as it seeks to strengthen its structures and rally support across the region.
