Former Gatanga Member of Parliament Peter Kenneth has said he is ready to work with ODM leader Raila Odinga should he pick him as his running mate.
Kenneth said Odinga is a humble leader who has the capacity to lead the country and it wouldn’t be an uphill task to work under him.
Speaking in Gatanga after a meeting with a section of elders from the Kikuyu council of elders, the former MP however said Odinga reserves the right to pick whoever he would want to be his deputy.
“The post of deputy president is not elective, it is the duty of the presidential candidate to decided who he would like to work with as his deputy,” he said.
“Most leaders have been demanding that the deputy president should come from the central region, but we can only sit back and wait who will be picked and if that falls on me, I will gladly take up the role,” Kenneth added.
The Kikuyu elders also backed Kenneth for the deputy president position noting that his appointment would help raise the political stake of the region.
Led by their spokesperson Ndung’u Ngari, the elders said that Kenneth was the best fit for Raila since he has the best leadership record starting from the time he served as Gatanga MP.
“He is one of the best leaders we have in the region and he should be given a chance to serve the country in a higher position,” he said.
“Our sub-county has never produced even a cabinet secretary and this is our time to shine,” Ngari added.
During Raila’s recent meeting in Murang’a, the leaders also urged the ODM boss to pick Kenneth as his running mate noting that the move would be a sign of payback for their support in the presidential elections.
