Orengo, Oburu attend installation of Kinyua Mwangi as Patron of Kikuyu Council of elders
Kikuyu Council of Elders and officials from Kiama Kiama today held a meeting in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri to install Kinyua Mwangi as patron of the two entities.
Among those in attendance included, Siaya Senator James Orengo, EALA MP Oburu Odinga, Otiende Amollo, and representatives from the Luo Council of Elders.
Others included Nyeri Deputy governor Dr. Caroline Karugu and Laikipia Deputy Governor John Mwaniki.
The event comes barely two weeks after it was cancelled at the last minute.
Speaking to People Daily Digital, Kikuyu Council of Elders’ national chairman Wachira Kiago said that they have decided to work together with Kiama Kiama to spearhead unity of the region.
He said that the event wasn’t political but solely aimed at uniting the people of Kenya.
Kinyua Mwangi formerly served as chairman of Kiama Kiama in Kirinyaga County.
Kiama Kia Ma is the cultural pillar of the Kikuyu Council of Elders, whose other pillars include economy, politics, and social welfare.
Wachira said that Kinyua Mwangi will play a key role in uniting the people of the Mount Kenya region.
Secretary-general Kikuyu Council of Elders Revered Peter Munga said that the unity of Mount Kenya is paramount and all leaders should encourage.
He said that Kiama Kiama and elders from the Kikuyu Council have been working together as a unit.
“We are here because of unity and nothing else. This isn’t political and our people should know this,” he told People Daily Digital.
Two rival groups within the Mount Kenya region have been fighting for the Kikuyu council of elders’ title.
One camp is led by Wachira Kiago while the other group is led by Samuel Kimani Maigua.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin, Captain Kungu Muigai, who is a patron for the Kenya National Council of Elders didn’t attend the meeting
He is on record terming Wachira’s group as corrupt and shouldn’t be allowed to speak on behalf of the community.
