Opposition leaders raise alarm over school capitation delays and insecurity
United Opposition leaders led by Jubilee Party flag bearer Fred Matiangi, Former Deputy President and DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa have raised concerns over the state of the country after holding a meeting, pointing to delays in school capitation and growing insecurity as urgent issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.
In a statement shared on X on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Matiangi said the meeting brought together leaders who have recently been working closely under a united opposition front.
The Wiper leader identified the key opposition figures who came together to deliberate on the current situation facing the country and the shared concerns they are addressing.

“This afternoon, I met with my brothers Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i, and Eugene Wamalwa,” the statement reads.
Kalonzo further outlined the main issues discussed during the meeting, explaining how delayed school capitation is affecting learning while insecurity continues to put lives at risk in different parts of the country without sufficient intervention.
“Our discussion centred on the state of the nation, particularly the delay in capitation even as schools reopen, and the rising insecurity across several counties where lives continue to be lost with no meaningful government action,” the statement reads.

The opposition leaders also used the meeting to express their expectations of the government, emphasising the need for leadership that responds to citizens’ needs, especially in critical sectors like education and security, which directly affect daily life.
“Kenyans deserve a government that works, one that prioritises education, protects its people, and responds with urgency, not silence,” he stated.
In conclusion, the opposition leaders assured the public that they will continue raising these concerns and pushing for solutions, positioning themselves as a voice for wananchi who are feeling the impact of the current challenges across the country.
“We want to assure every Kenyan that these concerns are being raised, and we will continue to push for accountability, real action, and lasting solutions,” the statement reads.
