Embattled Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol will this afternoon know his fate when a special Senate committee tables its report on the floor of the Houses

The 11-member committee will table its findings in a special sitting gazetted by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi. Committee, led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang’ is expected to either uphold the charges leveled against Oduol or dismiss the impeachment motion as forwarded by the Siaya County Assembly.

Team retreated on Friday to write the report after a two-day hearing proceedings according to section 33 of the County Governments Act that spells out the procedure of impeachment of a governor and his deputy.
However, sources have intimated to People Daily that there is pressure from Kenya Kwanza to save Oduol whether at the committee stage or at the floor of the House.
“There is a lot of pressure on us as a committee from Kenya Kwanza to save the deputy governor. However, we have agreed to append our signatures on the report as the last thing once we have agreed and adopt the report to dismiss the motion or uphold the allegations,” said a member of the committee who sought anonymity.
Asked whether the members had settled on the matter, Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo and another member said they are burning the midnight oil to have the report by today morning before its tabling in the House in the afternoon for debate.
“We are still at the retreat compiling the report. We hope it will be ready by today morning. So far, we have not agreed on the verdict,” Maanzo said.
Should at least six of the 11 members vote to reject the ouster bid, the impeachment bid shall flop.
However, should majority of the committee uphold any of the charges, the report shall be debated by the whole House and a vote taken by all the elected Members.
