The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially opened its expression of interest process for the 2027 General Elections, inviting party members to apply for all elective positions, including the presidency.

In a notice issued by the party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) and shared via the party’s official social media accounts on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, ODM called on qualified and interested members to submit applications for party tickets across all levels of leadership ahead of the 2027 polls.

Notably, the expression of interest process includes the highly anticipated presidential ticket, opening the door for party members who may wish to contest for the top office on an ODM ticket, despite the party being in a broad-based government arrangement with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), with talks still ongoing for a possible pre-election coalition agreement.

Full list of ODM elective positions

According to the notice, the party has opened nominations for President, Governor, Member of the Senate, County Woman Representative to the National Assembly, Member of the National Assembly, and Member of the County Assembly.

The party emphasised that the process is anchored on Article 61(1) of the ODM Constitution, read together with Rule 7(1) and Part VIII of the Party Elections and Nomination Rules.

“Pursuant to Article 61(1) of the ODM Constitution, as read together with Rule 7(1) and Part VIII of the Party Elections and Nomination Rules, the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) hereby invites applications from interested Party members seeking to contest in the 2027 General Elections on the ODM Party ticket for the following elective positions: a. President, b. Governor, c. Member of the Senate, d. County Woman Representative to the National Assembly, e. Member of the National Assembly, f. Member of the County Assembly,” the statement reads in part.

Siaya senator and ODM party leader Oburu Odinga had earlier clarified the party’s position ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying that by the end of 2026, the party will decide whether to go it alone or form coalitions with other parties.

However, he had noted that by being the party leader, he was the automatic presidential flagbearer for ODM should it choose to face the 2027 elections alone.

The party also encouraged members to verify their membership details to ensure eligibility during the nomination process.

The NECC said the exercise is aimed at guaranteeing a transparent and credible nomination process ahead of the 2027 elections.

ODM remains one of the country’s major political parties and a key player in national politics, despite its current internal wrangles that are now threatening its popularity.

The opening of nominations signals the formal start of internal preparations for the next electoral cycle.

The party is expected to roll out further guidelines on vetting, campaigns, and nomination timelines as the process progresses.
