Oburu Odinga rallies support for Moses Omondi in Ugunja by-election showdown
Orange Democratic Movement Party leader, Oburu Odinga, led the campaign for the party’s candidate in the Ugunja Constituency by-election, Moses Omondi, and voters to support him ahead of the November 27 by-election.
Oburu led the campaign on Saturday, November 9, 2025, and asked the constituents to elect Omondi, whom he described as a loyal ODM member.
“Oburu Odinga on Saturday led the vote hunt for our candidate, Moses Omondi, in the constituency by appealing to the electorate to vote for the party candidate. He described Moses as a loyal member of the party who has the oomph to pick up from where the former area MP Opiyo Wandayi left before his appointment into the cabinet a year ago,” the ODM statement reads.

The campaign attracted leaders from different party formations as a show of unity.
“The campaign was attended by leaders from different party formations as a show of unity ahead of the November 27 by-election. Governor of Siaya County, James Orengo; Minority Whip in the National Assembly, Millie Geza; Leaders of the Majority in the National Assembly and Senate, Kimani Ichungwah and Aaron Cheruiyot, respectively; senior government officials; and legislators from different parts of the country were present to drum up support for the candidate,” the statement added.
Moses Omondi also addressed residents during the rally. “Omondi said he will spearhead development activities in the constituency if elected and pledged to ensure Ugunja Constituency continues with the upward trajectory that had been set by the former MP Wandayi,” he said.

Former Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi appealed to voters to rally behind Omondi, describing him as capable of carrying forward the constituency’s progress.
The statement reads, “Wandayi appealed to the people of Ugunja to rally behind Omondi, whom he described as a dedicated man who understands the terrain of the constituency and who has skills and experience to steer the constituency to greater heights of success.”
The rally emphasised continuity, unity, and local development as central themes of the campaign. With a broad base of leaders showing support, the ODM Party aims to consolidate its presence in Ugunja and ensure that Omondi’s candidacy resonates with residents ahead of the by-election.
