Full list: 10 candidates cleared by IEBC to contest Ugunja by-election
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially cleared 10 candidates to vie for the Ugunja Parliamentary seat in the upcoming by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025.
Among the leading contenders for the race is the former Ugunja constituency CDF manager, Moses Omonsi, who is tipped as the frontrunner to succeed Energy CS Opiyo Opiyo Wandayi.
Moses Omondi of ODM
Omondi floored his competitors, Fredrick ZB Owino and Otieno Alur, to clinch the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) party ticket with 5,329 votes, and he is largely tipped to complete the quest with the party’s backing in the area
He basks in the backing of ODM top leadership, including his former boss and Wandayi, who recently campaigned for him, terming him the broad-based candidate.
Chris Budo
Chrispine Oduor: Famously known as Chris Buddo, the aspirant has his sights on succeeding Wandayi after officially throwing his hat on September 30, 2025.
Buddo, a renowned businessman, has attributed his candidacy to good governance, transparency and promoting socioeconomic development in the Siaya-based constituency.
He initially teamed up with DAP-K of Eugene Wamalwa, but later joined KANU, where he will contest the seat in the November 27 by-elections.

Benson Obol
The United Greens movement (UGM) candidate was among those officially cleared by IEBC on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
He has since launched his campaign with the party’s presidential flag bearer, David Maraga, among the politicians in Ugunja to solicit support for the newly formed party.

Orodi Johannes Odhiambo
An accomplished scholar with a mean professional achievement. The veteran candidate is a member of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya and the Kenya Society of Biological and Environmental Engineers.
He will run on a Wiper Patriotic Front ticket after the Kalonzo Musyoka-led party confirmed him as the party’s candidate.
Lilian Aketch
The only Female Aspirant in the Ugunja Constituency race. Hailing from Sigomere ward, Akinyi has centred her manifesto on empowering the youth and women.
She will contest on the Alliance for Real Change Party (ARK).
Erick Ofiro
The Jubilee party candidate in the upcoming byelections. Ofir prevailed over his rival following a short-lived contestation for the party ticket between him and Wycliffe Wendo.
Ofiro, who also hails from Hawagaya, Sigomere Ward, will fancy his chances against the pool of ten others.
