Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has predicted Deputy President Kithure Kindiki will not be President William Ruto’s running mate in 2027.

Speaking to a local TV on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Nyutu asserted that the current DP will have to contend with a less influential role, as he cannot be picked as President William Ruto’s running mate.

Nyutu has claimed that the writing is already on the wall for the politician, whether or not he delivers the Mbeere North seat to the government.

“Kindiki will not be picked as the running mate for Ruto even if he delivers the Mbeere North seat,” he said.

“You can see that Cherargei’s sentiments that he will be retained as the running mate brought ODM up in arms. I am telling you, he will be sacrificed and will not be running in 2027 as a running mate. If he were able to deliver the seat, he would only enhance his chances of being something else,” he added.

Gachagua-Kindiki battle

Nytu also stated that a defeat for the government in the Mbeere North race will affirm Gachagua’s kingpin status in the Mt Kenya region.

“The Mbeere race is proving the controversy around Mt Kenya East and West, which is a narrative of Ruto to employ the old tactic of divide and rule. If Kindiki does not deliver, there is nothing like Mt Kenya East, and he is not a king. The issue is nonexistence! Mt Kenya is one and under the leadership of Gachagua,” he stated.

Nyutu remarks amid a looming showdown of political supremacy pitting Kindiki and his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua.

The pair has already hit the campaign trail by camping at Mbeere North in a rare show of political showmanship, a first-of-its-kind happening just over a year after the former rose to the position of the deputy president after Gachagua’s ouster through impeachment.
