Ndegwa Njiru: I don’t support Gachagua and I am not a DCP member

Advocate Ndegwa Njiru has clarified that he does not support former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, nor is he a member of his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

Speaking during an interview with a local podcast on Monday, December 9, 2025, Njiru, who currently serves as legal counsel for the former Deputy President, stated that, despite representing Gachagua in legal matters, his political allegiance lies firmly with the Kalonzo Musyoka–led Wiper Party and the broader United Opposition.

“I don’t support Gachagua; I support the opposition because they have prescribed the ideals that I subscribe to, and by the way, I’m not even a member of DCP,” Ndegwa said.

Njiru explained that the coalition’s ideologies and mission align more closely with his own political beliefs. Asked whether he would support Gachagua if the United Opposition endorsed him as its presidential flagbearer, the outspoken lawyer said he had no objection and would back any candidate agreed upon by the coalition.

He further expressed strong confidence in Kalonzo Musyoka, stating that his decision to align with the Wiper Party is rooted in Kalonzo’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and constitutionalism should he assume office.

Njiru’s remarks come just days after Kalonzo announced that recent opinion polls place him ahead of President William Ruto.

According to him, this is what has sparked conversations about the “50 per cent plus 1” scenario. However, he said it won’t happen because he is a strong contender for the presidency and can unseat Ruto in the first round.

“As we speak, I am so much ahead of him in the opinion polls, so much ahead of him. That is why you have begun hearing of 50+1; we will not reach there,” he said.

Ndegwa’s senate bid

Ndegwa Njiru has also come out to declare his interest in the Kirinyaga senate seat in 2027, saying that he is equal to the task.

“I want to be a senator because I want to make my contribution to building this country. Okay? I am a strict adherent to the law, and I believe that we need quality materials in Parliament to oversee government, oversee a spillage in the Senate and in the counties, and make sure that Kenyans realise the intention of devolution,” Ndwegwa said.
