Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has hailed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino for missing the joint parliamentary group meeting between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Kenya Kwanza.

In a statement posted on his socials on Monday, August 18, 2025, he congratulated Sifuna and Babu Owino for boldly answering the true calling of an advocate. He noted that their decision to abstain from the joint parliamentary group meeting was a remarkable display of strength and a testament to their commitment to liberate the country from political conmen.

According to Ndegwa, leaders who choose to stand firm against political theatrics are the true defenders of democracy, and their courage serves as an inspiration to other leaders who may be afraid to challenge the system.

The PG was held at Karen, Nairobi, with both Raila Odinga and President William Ruto in attendance, but Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna were notably absent.

“Congratulations to Hon. Super Senator @edwinsifuna and Babu Owino for boldly answering the true calling of an advocate. Your decision to abstain from the ODM/UDA PG charade is a remarkable display of strength and a testament to your commitment to liberate this country from political conmen. Keep shining a light on the truth.” Ndegwa stated,

Kalonzo’s take

This comes days after Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka weighed in on the joint parliamentary group meeting between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking at the LSK conference in Kwale on Friday, August 15, 2025, Kalonzo opined that holding the PG remains within the right of the two co-principals of the broad-based government.

He, however, urged the ODM party to then formally accept its position as part of the government and vacate its opposition role.

Order of governance

“Ruto has called for a joint PG between UDA and ODM. It’s within their right to do so. But let them be decent; if you (Sifuna) attend that meeting at the state house on Monday, it will be for the good order and love of this country and governance and supremacy of our institutions that ODM acts,” he explained.

He particularly urged the minority leader of the national assembly, Junet Mohammed to step down from his role in line with the spirit of the constitution.
