MP Mukunji mimics Kindiki’s voice while campaigning for United Opposition candidate

By , November 19, 2025

Manyatta MP John Mukunji left a crowd in stitches after imitating Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s voice while campaigning in Mbeere North for their United Opposition candidate, Newton Karish.

During a rally in Evuvore on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the MP, who has been actively canvassing for Karish, mimicked the deputy president’s soprano voice, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Kindiki’s voice has always been fodder for mockery by his political critics, especially after assuming the deputy head of state under controversial circumstances.

Mukunji continued to lampoon the deputy president by imitating his appeals to Mbeere North residents to vote for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate. The mimicry aimed at ridiculing Kindiki while energising supporters.

Mtachagua mthende, mtachagua mthende,” Mukunji said in Kindiki’s voice

The MP escalated his mockery by labelling Kindiki a ‘nominated deputy president’ and suggesting that, unlike former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was elected, Kindiki was handpicked for the position. Mukunji asserted that no one recognises him as the deputy president and emphasised that he should show respect to his predecessor.

Mbarire’s ouster from UDA

Mukunji further switched gears to direct his criticism at Embu Governor Cecil Mbarire, demanding that she should be fired from her role as the chairperson of the UDA party so as to concentrate on her gubernatorial duties.

Mukunji argued that should UDA lose in the Mbeere North by-election, which falls within her jurisdiction, the party would lose confidence in her.

He added that her inability to deliver the seat in an area where she serves as governor would justify removing her from the role of UDA chairperson, allowing her to focus fully on her county mandate.

Mukunji further stated that Governor Mbarire has been preoccupied with party matters, leaving limited attention for county issues, which were a key reason residents voted for her.

Tulikupea kazi ya governor ukaenda kufanya kazi ya chama Nairobi, tunataka ufutwe ukuje kufanyia watu kazi,” MP Mukunji states.

The call comes amid heightened political tensions, as the opposition led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has clashed with the state, represented by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geofrey Ruku, in promoting their respective candidates in Mbeere North by-elections.

Mbeere North has recently been flagged by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as a potential hotspot for by-election tensions.
