Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali has joined the united opposition bandwagon ahead of a church service in Murang’a County.

In photos shared by the area senator Joe Nyutu on Sunday, March 15, 2026, the MP was seen in the company of various opposition leaders before they proceeded to church.

Leaders present included Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, Jubilee presidential candidate Fred Matiang’i, and other leaders allied to the politicians.

This comes at a time when the outspoken former journalist has begun aligning himself with the united opposition following his fallout with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) over a number of issues best known to him.

He has also declared that he will challenge Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir in the Mombasa gubernatorial election in 2027. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently unveiled him as his candidate for the Mombasa seat.

Huyu kijana anaitwa Mohamed Ali, AKA Moha, AKA Jicho Pevu. Huyu ni mjumbe wa Nyali for the second time, na yeye ndio candidate wangu wa kiti cha gavana katika Mombasa County,” Gachagua told congregants.

Gachagua further noted that he would consolidate both Muslim and Christian votes behind the Nyali MP.

According to Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Mohammed Ali is also expected to join the Linda Mwananchi movement, which recently took a break, with its maiden rally set to be held at Tononoka Grounds after the brief hiatus.

“Mohamed Ali will soon join us; he is part of this team.”

Mombasa Gubernatorial race

This also comes at a time when political analysts such as Herman Manyora have weighed in on the 2027 Mombasa gubernatorial election, saying that Mohammed Ali has a higher chance of winning the seat than the incumbent.

He stated that Sharif Nassir has long relied on the endorsement of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, but now that he is no longer active in the political scene, his re-election could be in jeopardy.

He added that Jicho Pevu has a higher chance because Mombasa has historically been an opposition stronghold, and Sharif Nassir now being aligned with the government, could work against him, giving Mohammed Ali an upper hand.
