MP Kalasinga Majimbo mocks Wetang’ula after defeating his preferred candidate in Chwele-Kabuchai Ward contest

By , November 29, 2025

Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga has come out to metaphorically mock his Ford Kenya party boss, Moses Wetang’ula, after defeating his preferred candidate, Vincent Maunda, in the Chwele-Kabuchai Ward by-elections.

Wetang’ula, who often boasts of being “Ekwena Ye Mlusiva”, meaning a stubborn crocodile or a crocodile that is hard to deal with, uses the phrase to showcase his political prowess and influence in Bungoma, implying that he is a hard nut to crack and that anyone who goes against him suffers severe political consequences.

Majimbo Kalasinga, after defeating Wetang’ula’s preferred candidate by choosing to support independent candidate Erick Wekesa, used the same metaphor to mock Wetang’ula following the resounding loss. Kalasinga’s candidate won in the majority of polling stations despite violence and intimidation from Ford Kenya, emerging victorious over Wetangula’s choice.

During a press conference on Friday, November 28, 2025, addressing Chwele Kabuchai locals and thanking them for their support, Kalasinga displayed a large banner depicting a crocodile tied around its neck and being dragged out of the water.

This was meant to illustrate that Wetangula, who had boasted of never being defeated and being the “stubborn crocodile”, has finally been pulled out of the water and rendered powerless.

According to Kalasinga, Wetangula is not what he claimed to be; his soft underbelly has been exposed, and he is now vulnerable.

His message to Wetangula

During the same press conference, Kalasinga was accompanied by former Bungoma Governor Wafula Wangamati, who stated that the Chwele Kabuchai by-elections demonstrated that Bungoma residents are fed up with Wetangula’s leadership and desire change.

He added that the defeat signalled a possible decline in FORD-K’s influence in the county.

Kalasinga also vowed to take legal action against the Ford Kenya party, accusing them of destroying his hotel in Chwele Market and his house during the by-election campaigns.

These events come after Kalasinga’s candidate won with 3,700 votes, overwhelmingly defeating Vincent Maunda of Ford Kenya, who scored 1,700 votes, a margin of over 2,000 votes.
